How do you calculate your nutrition facts?
We use a software program that catalogs thousands of food items and ingredients. We input our recipes and it provides the info. For those rare ingredients the software program does not have, we input the ingredient nutrition facts in to the program.
What is your nutritional information based on?
Offering customers the choices they need to make to live healthy lifestyle is the cornerstone of Protein Bar. That being said, we needed to calculate nutritional information, and in all cases, used the most common ingredients for that menu item. For example, our blended drinks and breakfast bowls are calculated using skim milk and whey protein. Note, however, that you can cut calories by simply switching to almond milk.
In our blended drinks, the nutritional information is based on a 20oz serving. The snack sized drinks are half the size so, therefore, half the nutritional information.
In our Quinoa Chili, it’s based on Chicken Chili.
In our bowls, salads, and Bar-ritos it’s based on using all-natural chicken. If you swap tofu for chicken, use the simple corrections:
Calories: +10 cals
Fat: +5 g
Total Carbs: +3 g
Sugar: +2 g
Protein: -10 g
Do you have items that are gluten-free/vegan/vegetarian?
Yes, yes, and yes. In fact, we have an entire section on our website devoted to Alternative Diets. If you have a question about a specific ingredient within our recipes, email us through our
CONTACT US page.
Which milk should I choose in my blended drink or bowl?
Your choice of milk should be based on your dietary preference. Each has its own unique taste, so blended drinks and bowls may vary slightly in taste. Customers have found that 2% and Almond Milk make for the creamiest, best tasting drinks. We always recommend Almond Milk as it is the lowest calorie milk, – half the calories of skim milk – is sugar free, and tastes great.
Your nutrition info is based on chicken, what if I use tofu instead or add tofu?
We calculate our recipes based on using our all-natural chicken since that is by far the most popular item.
If you get tofu instead of chicken, for each of our recipes you should (relative to what is shown for chicken):
Calories: +10 cals
Fat: +5g
Total Carbs: +3g
Sugar: +2g
Protein: -10g
For simply adding tofu, that will add:
Calories: 115
Fat: 6g
Total Carbs: 3g
Sugar: 2g
Protein: 12g
Where does the sugar in your menu items come from?
The sugar found in Protein Bar’s items comes from the naturally-occurring sugar in fresh fruit, vegetables, and milk, and is easily converted to energy by the body. This is the same type of sugar you get when biting into an apple. Unlike many other healthy food concepts, our items contain no refined sugars, which the body converts to fat if it is not burned through exercise.
Are your ingredients organic?
Though we use many ingredients that are in fact organic, we will vary our suppliers occasionally to ensure quality. For this reason, we do not feel comfortable placing “organic” next to any specific menu item ingredient unless we are absolutely certain we have found the highest quality organic product, such as with our quinoa, agave nectar or beef. We do, however, use all-natural proteins, whole grains, milks, and produce in all menu items.
